Andrea S. Ballinger is Vice President and Chief Operating & Information Officer for the University of Illinois Alumni Association.  In this role, Ms. Ballinger serves as the Executive Sponsor of the strategic plan for the Association that is creating the path to the future based on wide input from stakeholders and creating tactics for the changes in human resources, processes and technologies needed for the Association to deliver on its new vision and mission.   As a member of the Advancement Information Council, Ballinger is part of an executive management team guiding the Advance Illinois Project which is implementing the Blackbaud Constituent Relationship Management advancement database and a new data governance program.

Previously, she held the Associate Vice President and Chief Technology Officer role at Illinois State University.  In that capacity, she was responsible for the Administrative Technologies team, which included six divisions and a staff of more than 150 full-time employees.  Prior to this position, Ballinger was Assistant Vice President for Decision Support at the University of Illinois responsible for designing, building and supporting a Business Intelligence Competency Center.  Other related positions during her 16 years of working in higher education have included ERP Project Coordinator, Manager of a campus-wide IT services group, and campus Y2K Project Manager.

In recognition of her track record of accomplishments, Ballinger earned the distinction of being named one of the “Top 25 Information Managers for 2010” by Information Management magazine.  She generously shares her professional philosophy, experience and techniques for building effective teams with the higher education community and in other national forums.  From 2003-2007, she was a founding member and board member of the Higher Education Data Warehousing (HEDW) Forum, including a term as President in 2006 when she led the efforts to formalize HEDW as a not-for-profit organization.  She continues to participate in that group, most recently securing Illinois State University to host the 2015 HEDW conference.  Ballinger is also an active member of The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI), having served on the Executive Summit Advisory Board where she helped represent higher education’s interests in TDWI-sponsored strategic planning sessions, and periodically serves as a faculty member.

Prior to her higher education experience, Ballinger spent more than 10 years in the banking and finance industry, where she was Vice President of Operations at a large Midwest bank.  In that role she was responsible for planning and participating in several multi-million-dollar merger and acquisition projects.

Ballinger has an undergraduate degree and an MBA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she remains active in her college, recently retiring from a five-year stint as Chair of its MBA Alumni Committee.  Since graduating from Illinois, Ballinger has been an active mentor motivating young women to pursue leadership positions in the areas of finance and technology.
